Sydney FC Foundation Powerchair Teams Celebrate Successful 2026 NSWPFA Season
The Sydney FC Foundation Powerchair program has enjoyed another memorable season, with both the Premiership and Championship teams achieving outstanding results in the 2026 NSW Powerchair Football Association (NSWPFA) competition.
Representing Sydney FC Foundation throughout the season, the players showed the skill, determination and passion that continues to make the Powerchair program such an important part of the Foundation’s community work.
Across both teams, players continued to develop their football, compete at a high level and demonstrate the impact that Powerchair Football can have in creating opportunities for athletes with disability.
Premiership Team Finish Second in NSW
The Sydney FC Foundation Powerchair Premiership Team finished the 2026 season in second place after another strong campaign against some of the best teams in the state.
The team competed throughout the year against experienced opposition, including the Newcastle Jets, who featured four members of the Australian Powerchair Football national team, the Poweroos, heading to the FIFPA World Cup in Argentina later this year.
Finishing runners-up in the state’s top division is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment of the players, coaches and support staff involved in the program. The Premiership team continue to build and improve year on year, which we are so proud of at the Foundation.
The season was capped off with Joshua Ryan being awarded the MVP Award at the Australian Powerchair Football National Championships earlier in the year, which showcases Joshua’s quality as one of the most elite players across the country.
Championship Team Claim Back-to-Back Titles
The Sydney FC Foundation Powerchair Championship Team continued its impressive form, winning the 2026 NSWPFA Championship title and securing back-to-back championships.
After finishing on top of the ladder for the second consecutive season, the team once again showed the consistency, teamwork and determination that has become a feature of the program.
Throughout the season, the squad produced strong performances across the court, combining defensive discipline with attacking creativity to achieve another successful year.
Several players were also recognised for their individual performances:
George Teong was awarded the Golden Guard Award for his outstanding goalscoring efforts throughout the season.
Riley Brown finished as the competition’s leading assist provider, highlighting his creativity and ability to create opportunities for his teammates.
Cody Towne and Harry Simmons shared the award for Most Clean Sheets, recognising their defensive efforts and the team’s organisation throughout the season.
While these awards recognise individual achievements, they are also a reflection of the hard work and support of the entire team.
A Program Built Beyond Results
The success of the Sydney FC Foundation Powerchair program is about much more than results on the ladder.
Through weekly training, competition and community involvement, the program provides players with the opportunity to represent Sydney FC Foundation, develop their football skills and build strong connections with teammates and the wider football community.
The achievements of both teams this season are a credit to the players, coaches, volunteers, families and supporters who continue to contribute to the growth of the program.
Congratulations to the Sydney FC Foundation Powerchair Premiership Team on an outstanding second-place finish and to the Championship Team on securing back-to-back NSWPFA titles.
