
The Sydney FC Empowers Me! Program is the Foundation’s disability sports program in schools and communities across Sydney. The programs are delivered free of charge and are tailored to the participants special needs.
In 2024, the Sydney FC Empowers Me program grew greatly, impacting over 1,900 participants through over 6,000 individual training sessions. This saw the program go into 9 different schools delivering weekly tailored sporting sessions, along with community programs offered at Sky Park, Allianz Stadium and beyond. The ‘Caring for the Caregivers’ workshops were also launched which aided parent of participants with disabilities to come together and created a more closely connected community.
These programs sees specially tailored curriculums created to meet the participants needs, including working on teamwork, resilience, confidence, social engagement, gross motor skills, literacy, numeracy, as well as their football skills.
Taryan Walsh, Assistant Principal – Support Units, at Smalls Road Public School said:
“The kids have really enjoyed it and developed so much throughout the program. It's really lovely to see more of them playing soccer with the mainstream kids at break times and gaining confidence and the skills throughout the term to help them.”
