Sydney FC Empowers Me!
The Sydney FC Empowers Me! Program is the Foundation’s disability sports program in schools and communities across Sydney. The programs are delivered free of charge and are tailored to the participants special needs.
In 2023, the generous donations from our Sky Blue Community allowed us to launch our disability sports programs. The programs have been run in 11 schools subsequentially across 8 week programs, whilst also running community programs around Sydney and matchday experiences for participants. This has seen programs run for over 3,000 participants of the program for over 60 different disabilities since the program’s creation through over 15,000 individual sessions.
Developing these programs sees specially tailored curriculums created to meet the participants needs, including working on teamwork, resilience, confidence, literacy, numeracy, as well as their football skills.
Taryan Walsh, Assistant Principal – Support Units, at Smalls Road Public School said:
“The kids have really enjoyed it and developed so much throughout the program. It's really lovely to see more of them playing soccer with the mainstream kids at break times and gaining confidence and the skills throughout the term to help them.”
